Inexpensive Water Flow Meter: Compact Inline Digital Turbine Gauges for Residential Landscape Lines

Quick Answer

For residential landscape lines, a compact inline digital turbine water flow meter gives you local flow rate and total flow without a PLC. The Silver Instruments SITUF series covers DN15 to DN25 in brass or plastic bodies with battery display and pulse output. Send us your pipe size in DN, flow range in m3/h, pressure in bar and output type for a direct quote.

What These Meters Do in the Field

A landscape line usually runs between 0.3 and 3 m3/h. A digital turbine gauge shows total volume in m3 and actual flow in L/min right at the pipe. This helps contractors set valves and find leaks. Silver Instruments builds these meters for villa garden loops, park sprinkler lines, residential estates and small commercial landscapes.

The inline body is compact. Most installers choose DN15 or DN20 because the pipe is already 15 mm or 20 mm PE or PVC. In practice, 5 diameters of straight pipe upstream and 2 diameters downstream is enough for clean irrigation water. Keep the meter away from fast acting valves.

Key Specifications That Matter for Landscape Work

Buyers compare accuracy and output first. The SITUF series has a repeatability of 0.5 percent and accuracy of 2 percent of reading across a normal irrigation flow range. The display runs on a replaceable battery and shows total m3 and flow rate. The pulse output is a reed switch or Hall effect type, which works with most irrigation controllers and remote monitoring units.

Body materials are brass or engineering plastic. Brass suits municipal water and fertilized zones. Plastic suits budget work and coastal areas. Pressure rating is 10 bar up to 40 degrees Celsius and 6 bar up to 80 degrees Celsius. Threads are BSP male or NPT male. Common sizes are DN15, DN20 and DN25. Flow spans start from 0.05 m3/h on the low end and reach 10 m3/h on the high end for DN25.

Where These Meters Get Used

Last year a landscape contractor in Perth ordered 60 pieces of the 20 mm brass version for a residential estate. Each garden loop needed a local display and a pulse signal back to a central controller. The order shipped from Nanjing in 10 days. A distributor in Mexico now stocks the plastic DN15 model for small irrigation kits. We have also supplied these gauges for villa projects in Dubai and park sprinkler lines in Cebu.

Most buyers here are irrigation contractors or water equipment distributors, not factory process engineers. That changes how we quote. We ask about pipe size and flow range first, not about conductivity or viscosity.

Installation Notes

Here is the thing. A turbine meter fails quickly w

hen sand or pipe debris hits the impeller. Install a Y strainer or a simple mesh filter upstream because landscape lines carry dirt. Mount the meter horizontally if possible. Vertical mounting works only when flow goes upward and the pipe stays full. Do not install the meter at the lowest point of a line where dirt settles.

Check the pulse output wiring before you bury the cable. Use twisted pair cable for runs longer than 20 meters. The pulse signal is open collector or reed switch, so the controller input must have a pull up resistor or accept a dry contact pulse. Most irrigation controllers accept this.

Pricing and MOQ

For volume orders, unit price stays between USD 18 and USD 35 depending on size, material and output. A DN15 plastic meter with battery display and reed pulse output is the budget option. A DN20 brass meter with Hall pulse output and a higher temperature rating sits at the upper end. Silver Instruments keeps MOQ at 10 pieces for first orders. We also ship sample orders of 1 to 5 pieces by DHL or FedEx for evaluation.

Tell us your pipe size in DN, your normal and maximum flow in m3/h, the fluid type, pressure in bar and the output signal you need. We will send a quote with the exact model code and lead time. FAQ

Can I use this meter for potable water in a house?

Yes. The brass version with BSP threads is suitable for clean potable water. For drinking water certification, tell us the country. Some markets need WRAS or ACS approval. We can advise if the model meets local requirements.

What is the minimum flow the meter can detect?

For DN15, the typical starting flow is 0.05 m3/h. For DN20, it is 0.08 m3/h. Below that the impeller may not turn. If your landscape line runs very low misting or drip zones, send us the actual minimum flow before ordering.

Can the pulse output connect to a standard irrigation controller?

Yes. The pulse output is a dry contact or open collector signal. Most irrigation controllers accept this for flow monitoring. Check that the input counts pulses and is set for the correct pulse per liter value.

What is the maintenance schedule?

Clean the strainer every 3 months in sandy areas. Replace the battery once a year. The turbine impeller rarely fails if the strainer stays in place. We keep spare impeller kits in stock.

Do you ship to Southeast Asia and Latin America?

Yes. We ship from Nanjing, China by air and sea. We supply customers in Australia, the Philippines, Mexico, the UAE and other regions. Small orders go by courier. Volume orders ship by sea to main ports.
